Dr. Richard Butler is Emeritus Professor of Tourism and has acted as consultant for numerous public and private sector agencies and held visiting professorships in Australia, New Zealand, Austria, Italy Hong Kong and the Netherlands. He has published 28 books and over 200 papers and chapters in books. His main research areas are destination development, sustainability, overtourism, indigenous tourism, and tourism in peripheral areas. In 2016 he was awarded the UNWTO Ulysses medal for ‘excellence in the creation and dissemination of knowledge’.
