Charles was educated at the University of Strathclyde and Birkbeck College, University of London. He worked for eight years as an economist at the Bank of England, and has taught at the University of Reading, the University of Durham, the University of St Andrews and is currently employed at the University of Glasgow in the Adam Smith Business School. His current research interests include macroeconomics, monetary economics and macroprudential regulation.
